AVCSG NEWS |
We have a website! www.sustainaltavista.org Contact us at: altavistasustainabilitygroup@gmail.com NEW FACEBOOK GROUP: facebook.com/SustainAltaVista/ Help Line: 210-446-8027 Did you know that AVCSG is also a Climate Ready Neighborhoods POD (point of distribution)? We are a CRN Communications POD that is working to share practical, everyday information about native plants, water conservation, energy efficiency, waste reduction, and climate readiness through our programming. AVCSG is especially committed to supporting low-income and higher-risk neighbors by offering free resources and education that reduce costs and build resilience. Through our Community Connector network, neighbors check in on one another and help match people with support when needs arise. Our goal is simple: bring neighbors together, share resources, and build a caring, connected, and sustainable community, one project at a time. Do you want to learn more about what it means to be a CRN Communications POD? Do you want to join the Planning Team to support or expand our programming? If you’re passionate about the environment, sustainability, climate readiness, and climate justice, and want to be more involved in your neighborhood, then we want to hear from you! |
BASURA BASH |
There's still time to sign up, contact Kacey at kaceyavcsg@gmail.com to register! Bring the family to help clean up our District 1 area! |
AVCSG GARDEN CLUB |
Seasonal Tip: Start seeds and watering now! Even if we get another cold snap it will be mild. There’s less and less of a chance for another freeze, and it won’t be hard. Think about adding flowering annuals to beds and in pots for the bees and butterflies that are already out! ![]() Explore the resources on the Bexar County Master Gardeners website! |
INDOOR FOOD PANTRY |
AVCSG has partnered with Midtown Meetup to support an indoor food pantry! ![]() The food pantry has shelves for dry goods, canned foods, and a small fridge space for fresh produce and eggs. Please consider donating food to the food pantry when you can and take what you need! M-F 3pm - 1am and Sat-Sun 12pm - 1am |
COMMUNITY POTLUCKS |
Looking forward to May - details coming soon! |
COMMUNITY CONNECTORS |
Please consider helping AVCSG strengthen our community by volunteering as a Community Connector. The idea is that there is one person on each block that will help get information to their neighbors and build relationships with those who need the connection. Many neighbors are not on social media and feel isolated without access to community programs. Keep an eye out for block walking opportunities in the spring! A flyer will go out with the micro-garden workshop dates, community potlucks, and more activities and events. Send us an email at altavistasustainabilitygroup@gmail.com to connect with us on this and other ways to be involved! |
AVCSG POP UPS |
Looking forward to April - details coming soon! |
ALTA VISTA MOVES |
Get Ready! Get Moving! Join us on Wednesday March 11th, 6pm, at the Alta Vista Micro Garden (3301 N. Those who wish to run or bike are more than welcome to start off with the group. We’re going to meet up weekly on Wednesdays at 6pm, but check back on our website for more details or in the event of changes to scheduling. We won’t meet-up if inclement weather. Connect with us if you’d like to lead a group walk, bike, run, or stay with those who want to use the time for stretching or light yoga. |
Local Business & Organizations |
Please forward our newsletter to a neighbor as an invite to have them sign up by emailing us to be included in our directory. Not online? This email newsletter can be converted into plain text for easier reading or printing. Spanish speaking only? We need a volunteer who can translate our materials! We’re 90 neighbors strong who are receiving this newsletter now but our potential is exponential! |
